Description
This is my model of the U.S.S. Fletcher DD445.
In all, 181 Fletcher-class destroyers were built between 1942 and 1945. The ones that survived the war remained in service until the 1970's. The Fletcher participated in 15 battles in WWII, and later saw service in Korea.
This model depicts Fletcher in 1950, when it was modified for the new war. The number two gun turret has been replaced with a rocket launcher, and two of the 40mm guns have been replaced with radar directors for the rocket battery.
Fletcher-class destroyers were equipped with five 5-inch guns, ten torpedoes, depth charges for ASW duties, and several 20 and 40mm antiaircraft guns.
